mageborn
A Mageborn is an individual that carries the blood of an ancient race that helped forged the worlds. Mageborn have extremely powerful innate magical ability, and can master new spells easily. They will often have natural abilities that do not require any active spellcasting. Many of the most powerful mages in history have been mageborn.
They have typically been found among humans and elves, though they have been known to appear in individuals from other races that do still carry some human or elven blood. Mageborn were rare several millennia ago, and are even moreso now. The mageborn trait is passed through family lines, but can remain dormant for many generations.
